Climate Card Program
One of our simplest and most exciting programs is our licensable and brandable Prosumer Card. Sustain Hawaii is the first non-profit organization to launch the program as a powerful fundraising vehicle. Prosumer Programs are consistent with the visions and missions of groups like Sustain Hawaii who focus on education- and action-based sustainability for their local community.
The Prosumer Card is just like any other VISA credit card, including the competitive rates. The difference is the Prosumer Card Program is good for the people and the planet.
The Prosumer Card Program is simple. First, you create an online profile. Then every time you make a purchase with the card, we reward you with prosumer points much the same way miles are accrued by airline credit cards. The points set aside are equal to the amount of money needed to offset, on average, 100% of the pollution emitted in the lifecycle of the goods and services purchased. The amount is automatically calculated for each purchase, using a comprehensive equation, and added to your profile showing the prosumer points you've accumulated to offset your carbon emissions and see your contributions.
By offset, we mean that the money is invested in local energy-efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable agriculture programs to balance or offset global warming pollution. The new programs created from offset funds will gradually replace those that harm our environment. Where there are gaps in local solutions we strive to provide the best global alternatives.
The Prosumer Card Program enables you and your members/consumer to use your buying power to ‘charge for change’ and help keep our communities healthy and vibrant. This is one of the easiest things each of us can do to make a difference in global warming while concurrently building capacity for our local community to become more energy and food self-reliant.
